Today we are expecting visits from our partners and stakeholders who will be encouraged to play with the devices, explore the content, read the blog and watch some the participant interviews from the Public Trial. We will then be asking for feedback, suggestions and ideas based on their UT experience.
Posted by kat at December 18, 2003 01:34 PMFollowing the map was nice when you knew where you were, but got quite confussing when you got lost. It was a bit too easy to be lazy and just 'walk' on the map rather than actually going there. Because you did not have to be in place to see the pockets for that place you sometimes lost the effect of being there. But then when you did run the content in the correct place the effect was better.
Reading other people's content was nice, it would have been nicer if you had some idea of who's pockets you were looking at. I would have liked to find my friend's stuff who visited a few days earlier. It was a real shame that the system kept on crashing as some of the people I was with did not actually manage to get to any pockets where they were.

fun to read others comments. made you notice stuff you wouldn't otherwise see. makes you see the street through the eyes of others. technology biggest constraint to using this web of information - not reliable enough. would be good if interface is more direct, e.g. using voice to record comments....would make comments less impersonal. mapping needs to be that detailed to find buildings and streets. needs interface that is more inclusive to broader group of people (same applies to the mapping). would be good if you could cache or grab all information about particular area so can go away and review an area you have just been to in a place that isn't covered by network.
Posted by: Lucy at December 18, 2003 05:28 PMIt's great to finally see the 2 prototypes (and hopefully we'll get the phone version working soon - I'd like to thank France Telecom R&D for writing the P800 prototype). Sure, it's rough around the edges, but I think it shows a need to write about experiences, and tagging locations with pictures and sound as well as text when out and about.
I guess the next area we need to look at is how to consume the information - we've already reached information overload on a small screen, and there are several threads that would be easier to peruse on the web, or via audio.
Overall, I just think it's great to have some tangible prototypes and research into this area, and use this information to push the technology towards what people actually want to do.
Thanks go to the entire team for getting this off the ground, all the other partners and funders, and also the 100 brave hardy souls that used the prototype and provided feedback.
